Another great thing about Baguio is waking up for breakfast and having the freshest produce that Baguio has to over namely Strawberries!!

Quick Trip to Baguio

Before the Halloween festivities begin, the family and I pack our bags and headed to Baguio for a weekend of peace and bonding.

No Baguio trip would be complete without a USDA Rib Eye Steak Buffet at the Cotterman!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Every birthday, my family and I have been keeping a tradition of surprising the celebrant with a birthday cake and blowing out candles when the clock strikes twelve.

Usually my mom just blows out the candle and goes back to sleep..

Luckily this year, we opted to order Mrs. Yulo's Strawberry Shortcake as her birthday cake.

This made her stay up for another hour and enjoy about 3 slices of cake hahaha!

Stuck in SFO International airport for a 4 hour delay. Thankfully the Mabuhay Lounge was fully stocked with drinks and snacks. These should keep me occupied for exactly 5 minutes.

Italian Sausage Pasta

Her go-to specialty, Italian Sausage and Tomato Pasta

A simply pasta recipe using minced Italian Sausage sauteed in garlic and olive oil, then mixed with homemade marinara sauce. But any bottled marinara sauce would do.

Toss in pasta and dinner is served!

French dip and red velvet for dinner..

 My very sweet sister brought me home a French Dip Sandwich for dinner so that I don't have to cook

(and maybe so that she doesn't have to do the dishes haha)

Mounds of thinly sliced and beautifully roasted beef nestled in between a crusty french baguette and served with a side of roast beef drippings meant for dipping referred to as "au jus" which means "with juice".

 

 

And for dessert, a huge slice of Red Velvet Cake from Raley's

We've recently become a big fan of the in-store bakery of Raley's for their really delicious selection of gourmet cakes!

Definitely a chill night tonight!

Greek Style Tapas for One!

A light dinner for one as a spend a chill Saturday night home alone..

Instead of the usual wine and cheese platter.. I decided to make good use of the stove top grill.

Just threw in a few pieces of dry-seasoned chicken tenders, tomato slices and broccoli until they were tender and had beautiful grill marks. Then topped to broccoli with a few chunks of fresh mozzarella to add a little something extra.

A little drizzle of greek style vinaigrette and you are done!

With a pack running around 10 dollars.. definitely good enough to satisfy a sushi craving for a lazy night at home!

Gold Medal Ribbon

My Favorite Ice Cream of all time!

I remember the time when I was about 7 years old and when my grandma would always take me and my cousins out for ice cream in Baskin Robbins which was the new, hip, ice cream shop at that time. Despite being a big chocolate fan, I remember taking a chance and ordering Gold Medal Ribbon. Ever since then, I only order Gold Medal Ribbon during every visit to Baskin Robbins.

Unfortunately, Baskin Robbins no longer sells its products in the Philippines so now I have to wait for trips abroad to devour this old favorite!

Quickie: Pan Con Tomate

I went crazy for these suckers during our entire euro trip!

All you need to make Pan Con Tomate are two key ingredients: 

really good crusty bread and ripe tomatoes!

I used day old ciabatta from Raley's which I toasted til slightly brown and crisp. Once the bread is toasted to your liking, simple slice a tomato into two and then rub the cut side down on the warm bread. 

Others like to drizzle a little bit of olive oil while i stuck with just the tomatoes and then sprinkled a little bit of sea salt.

Simple yet exquisite!

Finally found a Korean Market near my sister's place!!

Quickie: Spam Musubi

Boredom + Leftover Rice + Leftover Uncooked Spam

I always knew I would like spam musubi since I like all the components that are used to make it.. I mean c'mon! I have yet to meet a person who doesn't like spam!

But since I know I could find all of its ingredients in my pantry, I never dared order spam musubi at a restaurant. So as boredom stuck, I thought why not try making my own.

So after a couple of youtube videos and learning that the best rice shaper was to use the actual spam tin.. I ended up with this!

Looks pretty decent and tastes just like how I expected spam musubi to taste like.

But with the effort of making this supposedly simple dish got me thinking..

I should just order this next time I go to a restaurant!!
