Super Seoul Fridays

and the fun continues!!

After our Korean cooking class..it was off to the National Museum of Korea
to get more in touch with the history and culture of the country...

of course the whole learning experience continued well into the night

In this very quiet neighborhood and right behind those walls
we were about to experience one of Seoul's top summer offerings..

Presenting.. Sam Gae Tang

A Traditional Korean Chicken Soup
Served boiling hot.. a very popular dish during the summer season
(remember our lesson on Korean food.. hot food for hot weather..and so on..)

The dish begins with a whole spring chicken
which is then stuffed with glutenous rice, ginseng, ginger, chestnuts, and dried dates

The chicken is placed in individual bowls
then brought to a boil in a clear broth infused with scallions and (I believe) pine nuts.

Straight from the stove and still boiling, the Sam Gae Tang is served for you to enjoy immediately

The description may sound more medicinal rather than delicious..
but with the accompaniment of various condiments such
as the basic salt and pepper blend served alongside the Sam Gae Tang..
the dish is truly delicious..and actually refreshing!

Of course alcohol is a staple with our Korean meals!

So after our meal.... us kids headed back to Yonsei to enjoy the festivities of Akaraka!

We may not have had a ticket..but at least we saw the stars up close..
even if it was by the back entrance!!
