Harris Ranch

A "mirage" in the middle of nowhere

With our Los Angeles road trip off to a good start, we decided to make a pit stop at Harris Ranch for lunch.

The Harris Ranch Restaurant

A part of the Harris Ranch complex together with the Harris Ranch Inn, Harris Ranch in Coalinga is actually known as the largest beef producer in California together with being the largest ranch on the West Coast of the United States.

Although we were at a ranch, lunch was served with not haystack or red checkered tablecloth in sight!

Horseradish Flank Caesar

Marinated choice slices of beef served on a bed of crisp Romaine lettuce drizzled with a Horseradish dressing, cherry tomatoes, avocado, bleu cheese and roasted garlic.

Although I was still on a cleanse and is supposedly not allowed to eat red meat, I figured that it might be a while since we go back here.. and we are in fact dining at the largest beef producer in California which meant Steak was the right way to go.

I enjoyed the play with horseradish dressing because it gave the salad a sharper taste balanced out by the cool, creamy texture of the avocado which I think I would start serving together with all my caesar salads from now on. The roasted garlic was my favorite part of the salad because it gave the smokey, sweet flavor which went really well with the dressing and the perfectly grilled meat.

Now we're back on the road... Definitely stopping by this place again on the next road trip!
