The Melting Pot

Fondue Night in Kansas

After spending the whole afternoon doing touristy stuff around Kansas and checking out the World War Memorial under the scorching heat, we decided to have a nice, cozy, and comforting dinner over at the melting pot.

Nothing screams more comforting than melting cheese especially for me and my sister. When we were little, we both just had a certain fascination with melted cheese that we were happy just placing a couple of slices of cheddar cheese into the pan of an oven toasted and let the broiler melt the cheese. We would then simply spoon the cheese and always fight for the burnt edges of the cheese which would get a nutty flavor and chewy bite. Those were the good old days lol!

For our dinner tonight, we decided to go with Melting Pot's set menu which was a 4 course meal which started with a salad.

California Salad

Baby greens tossed with Roma tomatoes, candied pecans, Gorgonzola cheese, and a tangy Raspberry Black Walnut Vinaigrette

Next was the cheese fondue course

We opted for the Cheddar Cheese Fondue which has a blend of medium-sharp cheddar and Emmenthales Swiss Cheese, lager beer, garlic, and seasonings. Served with Bread, Veggies, and Apples.

I'm usually accustomed to the traditional Swiss style fondue which uses subtle cheeses and wine but this Cheddar Cheese combination really was a good choice. The cheddar cheese gives a nice subtle bite which cuts through the richness of the Swiss cheeses which could tend to get boring at some point. I also liked how the beer gave a depth of flavor but minus that sweet, slightly bitter notes that wine usually gives to fondue.

Third was the Entree Course

Opting for an herb-ed broth for our fondue base, we chose an assortment of Fillet Mignon, Herb Crusted Chicken, Pacific White shrimp, Teriyaki Sirloin, Honey Orange Duck Breast, Citrus Infused Pork Tenderloin, and Chicken Potstickers.

All of which came with unlimited sauces and veggie sides.

Although all were good, the two that stood out the most for me were the fillet mignon and the honey orange duck breast.

and for our last course.. The Flaming Turtle

An awesome combination of milk chocolate, caramel, and candied pecans served flambeed tableside

as if the chocolate wasn't amazing on its own, we got rice krispie treats, graham cracked coated marshmallows, strawberries, and cheesecakes as dippers

After spending a tiring yet vet very educational day around Kansas, it was a really great decision that we headed over to Melting Pot and enjoyed this glorious fondue treat.

One of the best three hours spent eating!
