Maple

 the second home of pancakes!

With my sister going to be out of the house for a couple of days as she tours Kuala Lumpur, my parents took as out bright and early on a Saturday morning to have breakfast at Maple before seeing my sister off.

A new concept by the Pancake House group, Maple is actually considered by most as the higher end version of pancake house. Still serving the trademark, fluffy pancakes of Pancake House, Maple serves an entirely different all-day breakfast menu with a couple of Creole inspired dishes.

A display inspired by different types of maple syrup

we arrived at around 10:30am which was just the right time before the place filled up with diners.

Blueberry and Cream Cheese Pancake Tower

Light and fluffy pancakes layered with blueberry preserves and cream cheese.

Really liked that tart freshness of the blueberry as a contrast to the richness of the pancake and cream cheese. Also, with the tower not being too sweet, it could still be enjoyed with a light drizzle of the maple syrup.

 Savory Country Pancake

Pancakes layeres with Maple Bacon and a lot of cheese. Finished off with a sunny-side-up egg!

As a sucker for eggs benedict, this was definitely something that I immediately likes. Salty-sweet bacon and melted cheese sandwiched in between ultra fluffy pancakes which absorbed all of the gooey goodness of the runny egg yolk. A sinful yet heavenly bite!

Truffle Omelette Soufle

I really liked Maple's unique take on an omelette! Just like a souffle, the look and texture of the omelette was like whipped egg whites which was carefully cooked to keep a soft texture but with a full bodied exterior that is strong enough to hold its toppings of omelette staples such bacon, onions, and bell peppers. And of course, a drizzle of truffle oil made the whole dish even more special.

 Prime Rib Tapa

Imagine a big cut of Prime Rib Steak marinated to taste like traditional Filipino tapa which is then served with fried egg and garlic rice. Sounded like a great idea didn't it?

So although the dish was good overall, I guess I was expecting too much for the prime rib to taste like the dark, salty Filipino tapa. What I got was a well seasoned piece of beautifully grilled prime rib steak. It was a really good steak and egg breakfast so don't get me wrong, I was just expecting Maple to go all the way with the tapa flavor.

I'm really happy to have tried Maple because finally, now there's another really good breakfast place in the city which takes classic, breakfast staples and kicks them up a notch. Its like having a well trained chef make your mom's pancakes. It has the flavors of home but executed with that professional touch. (hehe hi mom!)

ps.
The family and I were initially set to head to Maple's branch at San Antonio Plaza in Forbes. Knowing that the place could get really filled up during weekends, we decided to make a call and check if there were still a lot of diners. The lady on the phone said yes so we immediately headed over to only find out that the entire place was booked for a private function. Such a disappointment. Luckily, The Shangri-la branch is now open which actually turned out to be the bigger, better branch.
Just an fyi in case you plan on visiting the San Antonio branch!
