Happy Birthday Car!
As per the Birthday Girl's request.. I made reservations for an intimate French dinner with the family at Papillon.
An institution, Papillon has been the go-to place for French cuisine in Fremont for almost 20 years. Since Car would always drive by it on her way to work, she figured it was the perfect time to try it since mom and dad were visiting.. and of course since it was her birthday.. duh!

Papillon's House Salad
Mesclun Greens, Grape Tomatoes, and Apple slithers tossed in a light bleu cheese dressing
Roasted Pepper Soup
I really liked the smokey-sweet flavor that the roasted bell peppers gave blended with just the right amount of cream to pull the soup together and give it a smooth, velvety texture
Fillet Mignon
Served with a Cabernet Sauce and topped with Gorgonzola, Roasted Garlic Herb Butter, and sauteed Prawn Scampi
A very classy take on surf and turf!
Pistachio Crusted Scallops
served with Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc Sauce and Braised Scallions
The Scallops were cooked perfectly with a light crisp exterior yet tender and juicy interior texture. The beurre blanc had the just a hint of tanginess which complimented the slightly sharp bite of the scallions and the very delicate flavors of the scallop.
Beef Wellington
Papillon's Signature Dish
A classic dish made with a thick cut of beef tenderloin which is then wrapped in a puff pastry and baked until golden
What amazed me was how despite the thick cut of the beef and with the chef techinically baking this blind since you dont really see the meat anymore due to the puff pastry, Papillon still got my order perfectly medium with a texture soo tender, it felt like butter melting in your mouth.
The beef is just so flavorful and amazing, you would tend to forget everything else that was served on the plate.
