Gogung

Who would have ever guessed that right below the funky steps of Ssamziegil there would be a Michelin rated restaurant..

Found something special for the family to try for their first meal in Seoul.

Gogung!

Designated by The Seoul Metropolitan Government as one of the Best Korean Restaurants in Seoul, Gogung is said to maintain the tradition of Jeonju Bimbimbap alive through the use of freshest vegetables and using rice specifically from Jeonju which is considered to be the home of bibimbap.

The Michelin Man agrees that Gogung is the place to be!

Since Dad is not big on spicy, we ordered bulgogi jungol which was cooked on our table.

Basically uses the same marinated barbecue beef for bulgogi, but then added with noodles and vegetables, turning the dish into a stew. Others might compare bulgogi jungol to Japan's sukiyaki. However, I find that bulgogi jungol has a subtler sweetness and lighter broth which Gogung executed perfectly.

Gogung's Dolsot Bibimbap

I opted to order the Dolsot over the Jeonju bibimbap because for one it had meat. Secondly, I really how the hot stone bowl creates a crust with the rice, adding another layer of texture to the mix of crunchy fresh vegetables.

Compared to other restaurants in Seoul, Gogung truly stands out because they maintain a traditional approach to their recipes and their manner of cooking. No fancy fusion here, but rather just good quality ingredients served in the same manner that has been used for centuries.

Gogung is definitely a must visit whenever in Seoul!
