Wangbijib

Ain't that a beautiful sight?

After walking around Myeongdong for a bit to buy some goodies for friends back home, everyone started asking about lunch. With the group requesting that it was about time to try some Korean barbecue, I couldn't think of a better place to take them to but Wangbijib.

Known as one of the most popular barbecue chains in Seoul, we were lucky that Wangbijib's first and main branch was conveniently located in Myeongdong!

Endless banchan to start our feast!

Here come the meats!

We ordered a set meal of Sogalbi Jeongsik and then an additional order of Yangyeom Wang Galbi.

and then the Yangyeom Wang Galbi

Wangbijib's marinated premium beef ribs. Definitely the star of the show!

Beautifully tender and marinated with just the right amount of sweetness and smokey, barbecue flavour without overpowering the natural flavours of the beef.

I was told that the main difference of the Wang Galbi from the usual Sogalbi (beef ribs) is the cut. Literally translated as King Ribs, Wang Galbi is cut thinner than the usual galbi and with a portion of the meat still attached to the ribs. I assume the the thinner cut of the meat helped in making the meat soak up more of the marinade and at the same time grilled easier and had a much more tender bite compared to  the other two that we had.

Purple Rice!

Multi grain rice mixed with Korean black rice which adds a distinct, nutty flavour to this side dish.

Cheers to our Korean Sunday Feast!!
