Revisiting Myeongdong Gyoja

Been looking forward to this for over a year now!

I have never forgotten Myeongdong Gyoja ever since Mih-Songsaengnim took us here for dinner last year. There's was something about the overall vibe of the place the really stuck with me. Imagine, a simple restaurant with only 4 items on their menu yet people, both local and foreign, always line up just to get a taste of their food. But who could blame them since those four items on the menu are the best versions of those dishes that you could ever try!

Bibimguksu!

My favorite cold noodles! Homemade knife-cut wheat noodles (guksu) topped with a spicy sauce consisting mainly of gochujang, kimchi, and vinegar. The whole dish is then finished off with thinly sliced cucumber which adds a cooling layer of flavor and some much needed crunch. This is truly one dish I am willing to take a day-trip to Seoul for!

Kalguksu

Myeongdong Gyoja's hand rolled wheat noodles, now cooked in a hot broth. Traditionally, Kalguksu is made with a broth that has been infused with anchovies, shellfish, and kelp however I find Myeongdong Gyoja's broth to have a much richer, more meatier taste than a seafood infused broth. The dished is then finished off with some ground beef and a couple of homemade mandu/dumplings. A big, hearty bowl of noodle soup which immediately screams "comfort food"!

After hyping it up so much to the family, Im relieved that they also gave Myeongdong Gyoja their seal of approval!
